Thoughts for Thursday 3-15-12

What the Fluke: If you are unaware of the Sandra Fluke affair then I must welcome you from your isolation. I for one hate to dive into women issues, but here I go. Call me old fashioned if you must, but I remember women calling other women who slept outside of marriage, with multiple partners, or just slept around the same word that Rush Limbaugh called Ms. Fluke. I keep hearing how vile that word is, and that it is degrading to woman, but I’ve heard young woman use that term with pride.

I remember a waitress, from a few years back, who’s nickname was wh*re dog and she seemed to relish in it. I was shocked when I heard her called that by her coworkers—both male and female—call her that as I eat breakfast one morning. I thought we were in the days when women wanted to be treated like men. It seems to me that Ms. Fluke willing put herself up for public display and the Democrat party is playing this meaningless episode to the limits. I personally don’t care about the whole affair, other then the fact that once again the President and his Progressive Socialists allies have changed the subject. The point of this whole conversation is the President is violating the civil and Constitutional rights of all Americans with ObamaCare.

The idea that American women could be fooled by this pack of lies and half-truths is frightening. I have more faith in people up to a point. I still believe that the majority of the country still believes in some basic moral standards. I see the hate on the left of all that is good, moral, and decent and I know that this is not the time to take anything for granted. What we are seeing in this case is pure evil.

I did not hear the testimony of Ms. Fluke or all of the comments of Mr. Limbaugh, but I heard much of them. The idea that this proves that there is a “war on women” by the Republicans is laughable. The only war I see is the Democrat’s war on all Americans and our freedoms.

A shocking strategic release: Reuters reported today that the US and UK have agreed to release oil from the SPR (Strategic Petroleum Reserve) some time this summer—just in time for the elections—but it appears that the administration has denied the report. It would seem that this little leak was not supposed to happen. As Mr. Obama runs around the nation and talks about how supplies of oil will have no affect on gas prices, I have to wonder why he thinks the release of oil from the SPR will help.

The sad truth to Mr. Obama’s ideas of how the world works is quaint. I’m sure that he really thinks that he can inspire another “moon shot” program that will create alternatives to petroleum for our energy needs. This is why he and his energy secretary get the idea that they must do everything to increase energy costs. He said so many times in the past, he has just recently (well since he wants to keep the fancy house, plane, and all the other perks that goes with being POTUS) realized the value of cheap energy. The idea has been around a long time: If energy cost goes up, then it would make the alternatives more attractive. Over time the cost of the alternatives would eventually come down in cost or the higher cost would be absorbed by the market.

The major problem with this elitist idea is that it is divorced from the reality of the lives of the majority of Americans. The prosperity that has marked the greatest improvements in the life of humans in the shortest amount of time in history has been fueled by cheap energy. Petroleum derivatives were first used to replace the use of whale oil for lighting. Over time it has become an intricate part of modern life. It is a natural product that is pumped out of the earth and refined and used for many different uses. According to many experts it will someday be depleted someday. When that day comes we will be forced to find replacements so we must continue to research alternatives, but there is no magic replacement as of today.

We must be realistic about our choices for energy. We must not be misled by an idealistic dreamer who believes that he can change the world overnight. Academic theories are just that; theories. It is easy to draw plans out, but another to deploy them. We cannot pin our hopes on pipe dreams. The government has a terrible record when it comes to picking winners and losers.

Voter Fraud: The same week that Pennsylvania’s governor signed into law a voter ID law, the DOJ blocked a similar bill in Texas. In addition the NAACP is asking the United Nations to look into these laws in the US. With the continuous cries of racism and voter intimidation from the Democrat Party it makes me wonder why they feel so comfortable with voter fraud? Could it be that they are not concerned about the Republicans, Tea Party, Constitution Party, or some other group stuffing the ballot boxes?

I’m really amazed that Democrats have embraced voter fraud as a major campaign issue. The idea that anyone can walk into a polling place and vote without any verification of identity makes no sense. The idea that anyone in this country who is involved enough in the system to vote would not have a form of ID is ludicrous. There can be no other reason for this stand against voter identification but the ability to stuff ballot boxes and steal elections or overturn results. This is a national disgrace. The Progressives who are now willing to attack the electoral system must be defeated.

The only thing more bizarre then the embrace of allowing unmonitored and uncontrolled voting is that countries that don’t allow free elections and discriminate decides the merits of our system. Is it not time for the NAACP to close their doors? It seems that the only reason they exist is to collect money and pay their employees. Beyond that their mission is to cause trouble to keep collecting dues.
