Power and Privilege

One of my early memories was going to a political rally with my parents. I remember hearing two adults talking about the candidate. In this conversation one person was questioning the candidate’s character. The answer to this question was basically: Hey the best thing we can do is send him to Washington where he can’t do as much harm. This statement shows some of the political naivety of the person and the times. The mid 60s was a time when few people were touched by the Federal government. It was a time when local politics outweighed those of the national government.

Today it is over 40 years later and few are as naive and believe that those in the US Congress can do little harm. With the National debt passing the $15,000,000,000,000.00 ($15 trillion) fueled even faster by the Federal Government’s takeover of the healthcare system the increasing amount of regulations that are suffocating the economy it is hard to not see that Washington is not the place to send people who are not trustworthy. As more and more power is transferred away from the state and local governments those in the new national government have set up a system of power and privilege that is unlike anything ever seen in the nation’s history.

There is a major problem with the actions of those who say they are in Washington to serve the nation. With the release of information that shows that those in Congress have abused the power given to them and now believe that they are above the code of ethics that once guided the nation. This sense of privilege to wealth and power has enriched those in power and harmed the nation. I was not surprised to see evidence that members of Congress have engaged in insider trading, been bribed with options for IPO stock, and used their power to gather wealth through means that would be illegal for anyone else. In these cases they have exempted themselves from the laws they pass. They also write their own ethics rules. Such power and privilege undermines the foundation of our republic. It is no wonder that their approval ratings are so low. Few people would ever agree that our so-called “public servants” were elected for the purpose of self enrichment.

No one is sure how deep the corruption in Washington goes. Over the years there have been too many things done the only speak to corruption so deep that it is the rule, not the exception. Over the years, more and more of the actions taken have been in direct opposition to the will of the people. It goes deeper than the passage of ObamaCare, but it is the most glaring example of imperialistic rule. It is an example of our government grabbing power with the stated idea that: Once the American people began to get the benefits it would be impossible to repeal it. They hope to corrupt the entire nation in the same way that they have been corrupted. When a national leader states openly that: “That we must pass the bill to find out what is in the bill” they no longer care about serving the public.

The only defense to this corrupt behavior that I’ve heard was: that nothing that has been done was illegal or violated the ethics rules of Congress. Just because they exempt themselves from the same laws that the rest of America are subject to does not mean that it is moral. Just because they determine that insider trading does not violate their ethics, doesn’t mean it is not unethical. This whole affair calls back to the behavior of monarchies, dictators, and tyrants throughout history. When those who rule lookdown upon those who they are supposed to be protecting, they have lost the humanity required to govern. They seem to believe, and with some good reasons, that they can do anything. They have been able to bribe us with our own money and many of us happy with it. This is not the form of government that many of us expect. Those of us who believe that the nation was built on freedom and honest hard work want those who we send to serve to be ethical, honest, and believe in protecting our Constitutional freedoms. This is not done through insider trading, dishonest self-enrichment, and unethical behavior.

In their places of power the leadership has seemed to sell out the country to the lobbyist and the narrow special interests of those who are willing to buy the privilege. The Dodd/Franks Law was supposed to be an answer to the problems that caused the banking crisis of 2008. One of many issues with this law is the timing. Why was this bill passed before the actual issues that caused the problem were identified and understood? How did the debit card fees charged to retailer cause the near collapse of the economy? Why did it do nothing about the real problems in the banking system? Could it have something to do with the corruption of the authors of the bill? Barney Frank defended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac up to the crisis. Chris Dodd as head of the Senate Banking Committee was way to close to the problem and temptations that his position allowed. What do we not know about his involvement with the insider trading scandal? I trust neither and believe that the rush to pass this bill into law had more to do with covering tracks and less with solving problems. It only appears to be another “feel good” law that shows that they had done something. Whether it did any good or not, it made people think that the problem was solved.

Would it not have been a better solution to once again outlaw interstate banking and separate the brokers from the bankers? With the system created by the repeal of Glass/Steagall Act of 1933 in 1999 allowed banks to grow into what is now known as “too big to fail.” Instead of making a more stable banking system it has created a situation where a failure in one major market endangers the entire economy. It opened the door to the Federal government now is able to meddle in the operations of these large nation banking institutions. Leaving state regulators in less control of what should be a state’s responsibility. It also lead to the crisis of 2008 since banks were open to the bulling by groups such as ACORN as they sought approval for the mergers needed to build the nationwide banking powerhouses.

Another thing not fixed by Dodd/Franks was that they did not separate the commercial banks from the investment banks. You would think that the failure of Lehman Brothers in 2008 would have caused an honest, ethical, and sane person to reconsider the danger of combining the two types of banks. The failure of the system in 1929 and once again in 2008 should prove that the risk involved in such large organizations should be limited by limiting the scope of such failures. But since 2008 to today there are fewer banks. These banks now hold more money and are a greater danger to the security of the national banking system. By once again moving away from the too big to fail model and to smaller state based banking the Federal Government will have less say in the day to day operations of banks.

It is impossible to end all corruption, but the question remains on how we can limit the corruption in Washington and our state houses. The power and privilege of such offices presents too many temptations and a total lack of virtues, ethics, and morals seems to be the norm with many of the elder politicians. With the riches that many have amassed through various means it makes it difficult to remove many of the life time members. There is also the fact that many of those who are suspected of being corrupt have large monetary supporters outside of their districts and home states. There is also the problem of uninformed and corrupt individuals that support them. Another issue is that our elections have become the cloud of suspicion, due to the lack of voter verification imposed by the Democrat party. As long as our electoral system is suspect, then there is always the possibility that the American people no longer are in control of the nation. This truly means that the republic is dead.

I pray that it is not too late to save our nation. I see the TEA Party as a major movement that could reignite the understanding of our country and what makes it so special. My biggest fear is with the number of people who ignore and or ignorant of the dangers that face our nation. Those who are living off the corruption don’t want the people to understand or know the troubles the nation face as we go forward. They don’t want us to understand the dangers of the national debt to this generation and all of those who come after it. They tell us that they are going to fix the debt while continue to increase spending. They cut Medicare payments to shift it to a takeover of the healthcare system, and tell us that it is not a problem.

The system may be beyond salvaging but not the Constitution. We must look at our system and determine how to fix it. There have been changes to it that must be repaired. There must be an educational process to undo the lies told and the truth restored. Our founding fathers created the greatest nation on the planet. No system is perfect, but I do believe that ours is recoverable. We as a people must take back control from those who have set up a system designed to reward the powerful and privileged. As long as we have a government that places itself above the population we are no longer a nation of laws. By continuing down this road we are doomed to servitude to a tyrannical and imperial government.

Leadership

What does it mean to be a leader? Better yet what does leadership mean? To be a leader you must have leadership abilities, which means that people must trust and follow you. History is littered with leaders who inspired people to follow and failed a key requirement of leadership. To be a good leader a person must make good decisions. Making bad decisions or not making any decision can be fatal to a society. When any society fails to follow good leaders risk losing its cohesion and can collapse.

Now don’t get me wrong I have been in leadership positions for most of my life. I’ve run other people’s branch offices and franchised stores, Plus two different businesses that I owned. I’ve made good decisions and bad. I learned many years ago that if you don’t make mistakes then you are not doing anything. So life is a series of good and bad choices. No one can be correct all the time. The key is making more good than bad. The more good the better and as I’ve grown older I find that experience make it easier and sometimes almost automatic. But the odds of making a bad decision is always there, but not making one can be just as bad as making a bad one.

I must also say that I don’t think that I could ever do the things that a President has to do. It has to be the hardest job on Earth. I consider the job of President of the United States the same as trying to herd cats. This nation is made of every nationality on the planet and every political view that exists. The idea of this country is tolerance and domestic tranquility, with individuals who are fanatically independent. This volatile mixture has made a country that prides itself on the highest standard of living in the history of humankind.

Trying to run such a country is not a job that I’ve ever considered. So I have a tendency to be a little more understanding of Presidents, as long as their basic ideas are in line with the overall principles that have made the country great. I feel that President Obama does not have the values of the average citizen. His Socialistic beliefs run in opposition to what has created such a prosperous and reasonably stable society. It is not perfect, but no one or system can claim such a thing. But this President’s ideas show complete ignorance, a blatant desire to ignore the past, or (as some are saying) a desire to create civil unrest and the destruction of the nation.

The Failure of Power

Governments have a lot of responsibilities. The citizens of any country depend on the leaders to do certain things. One is to enforce the laws that are on the books and are needed to ensure security and domestic tranquility. Our leaders swear to protect and defend the Constitution and defend us against enemies both inside and outside of the country. Our federalist system was originally designed to be small. Throughout history governments grow larger and ours is no different. Through the use of bureaucracies, control is maintained at local levels. But as government grow beyond their control, they lose the ability to govern effectively. When any government fails to fulfill it primary duties while acquiring more power, their actual powers tend to decrease. Since government ultimately rule through the general approval of the citizens, anytime a government loses that approval it is doomed to fail.

The US Federal Government has extended its power for many years. Just recently, with the passage of the National Healthcare takeover, the government has made the largest power grab in American history. But with all of the failures of the government, from Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and the SEC, it is clear to many that regulations are worthless without the will to regulate. There is becoming a view that the US has fallen into a greater state of lawlessness. The US Justice Department has refused to punish individuals who did not even defend themselves when found intimidating voters in Philadelphia.

Our leaders have openly criticized state laws, that mirror federal law, without bothering to read it. Various members of the government have openly encouraged riots, by lying about the Arizona law while at the same time refusing to enforce the federal immigration laws. Even though other states have similar laws on their books, Arizona has been singled out for political reasons. This is not good governance.

Beyond the failures is the fact that the only answers coming from Congress is the call for more regulations. What good is it to pass more regulations that will also be ignored. I oppose any new immigration laws due to the fact that the current proposed law in the end is no different from the Immigration law of 1986. The politicians are saying that "this time there will be enforcement." Well I just wonder if they think that we are that stupid. Without enforcement, laws are worthless.

Our Trillion Dollar Pony

President Obama began his dog and pony show last week. This time he is telling us all of the brides that are being payed to us. You know the great things that are going to be "given" to us because the government took over the Healthcare Industry. I'm sure he will never tell us the truth of what the real costs will be until it is too late. Tyrants never tell you the real cost of their power grabbing policies. But he is sure that he can buy us off. I've seen a lot of cheering crowds but the polls don't seem to be moving up in approval. One of the reasons for the cheers would be that the president's speeches are all staged events. He is preaching to the choir. When you are talking to a friendly crowd it gives the appearance that everyone agrees with what is being said. For a dose of reality it would be nice to see him stand in front of a neutral audience and see the reaction. But he would never do this, since it might show the chinks in his armor.

The American people are being given a trillion dollar pony. Most children would be thrilled at the thought of given a pony. Well until reality hits. Once you get the pony, it must be fed and walked and ridden and then brushed. All the fun turns into a lot of responsibilities. As an adult you know this and understand that nothing comes for free. We understand the long term consequences of making such a commitment. Will we be spoiled kids or rational adults? Will we be bribed with our own money? We have had a pony forced upon us all with the promise that it will make our lives better. In the past it was an option, but through a process that many of us are ashamed of, the Congress made the decision for us.

America is being promised a lot of things with this government take over of Healthcare. We are told that the government take over will improve the system and make healthcare available to all. They've promised that we will be able to keep our current insurance and see a doctor anytime we need. But for most Americans they are not giving us anything. From the way it looks we are loosing a lot of things. One of them is our freedom to choose. We are also under a government mandate to purchase a product for no other reason then being alive.

The American people find themselves at a crossroad. We must decide which path we are going to take. Are we going to turn back from socialism and reclaim our freedoms or allow our leaders to bribe us. The current government is tempting the citizens with goodies. The question remains to be answered is: How many of us really believe that there is no price for the bribes we are being offered.

We must as a people realize that the glowing stories and promises are just that. If this tyranny is allowed to stand we will all not only be poorer, but less free. Our children will be paying for the boondoggle and will never know the freedoms that we once knew. Will we doom future generations to a never ending debt or certain enslavement to a totalitarian state.

Dealing with Progressives and Children

One of my favorite sayings is: "Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional." In our "Peter Pane" society many of those who have aged over the years, show little sign of maturity. I see immature argument constantly being given serious weight or no rebuttal. The fact that I see "adults" saying saying things that sound like a 8 year old child makes me understand why our society may be doomed.

Some of the signs that I see of immaturity from the Progressives:

Everyone else has universal healthcare: During the debate on "Healthcare Reform" one statement seem to always fall onto a common statement. "We are the only industrialized nation in the world without government/universal/state healthcare." Many parroted that statement without considering the deeper meaning. they never discussed the controls that come with it and the freedoms lost. No one ever asked this talking heads the simple question: Just because everyone else is doing it, does that make it better or even right? But no they made this statement without challenge and many Americans were lead to believe that the rest of the world was better than the US.

Threats are OK as long as from the left, since they are "correct." The arrogance of youth is dangerous. When you are young you usually are not dealing with all the facts. You also are easily swayed by others. This type of behavior is showing up across the nation in the Main Stream Media. They ignore the threats made to Republicans and Democrats when they opposed a left wing agenda item. When there are harsh words directed toward the left, they become victims and cry foul. In their minds since they are correct in their thinking and all opposed are evil, then they can do anything. This is the ultimate end to "the ends justifying the means."

A Required Reconciliation

At some point in most unions there comes a point of misunderstanding, distrust, and division. It can be caused by many things.We are seeing a lot of these things in The United States. The current leadership seem to be determined to divide and conquer the country. The leaders in Congress and the President must stop the attacks on the American people. They must explain why they have attacked entire groups of Americans. The Democrats and Republicans must reconcile with the American people. The news media must stop the blind allegiance to the Progressives and also stop the lies and constant attacks on people just exercising their first amendment right to free speech. The type of division seen today is dangerous for everyone. Revolution grow from this type of disconnect. We have already seen that the violence is on the left side of the spectrum. We must avoid violence and find a way to resolve the divisions that have been created by President Obama and the leaders of the Democrat Party.

The ruling party in Washington has expand their power far beyond those granted to it under the Constitution. They are following a path that many don't understand. They seem to think that this massive power grab is good for the country. It would only seem to be good for those who wish to destroy the country. With the passage of a so called healthcare reform bill, that was totally partisan, we see a disconnect between the national government and the people. The ruling party is confident that they have all the answers and don't need to consult those that they rule. Do they feel that they have a lock on power and no matter what they do they will always maintain their dictatorship? For what we saw this week was not the operation of a republic but the actions of a totalitarian state. Nancy Pelosi's march around the Capital building was a blatant show of corrupting power. The visual of her carrying a giant gavel seem to indicate her defiance of the will of the American people and her seizure of ultimate power.

The National Socialist Democrats take a lap around the capital to demonstrate their new unlimited powers. Ms. Pelosi's gavel must only be seen as a threat to all of us.

In this picture I see the threat of the new powers that the government is taking from the American people and laughing in the face of those who are there to defend their freedoms. This is a walk of imperialists who are telling the American people to "eat cake."

The current talk in Washington is about reconciliation. But is there another type of reconciliation needed or will they even try to regain any connection with the governed. Does the ruling party plan to continue to grab more power or at some point do they try to reconcile with the American people. But how do they do that when they have been so disrespectful? I for one have lost any feelings of loyalty. I will work to make my state a better place, but I will not even identify myself as an American. I don't know how I can reconcile with this totalitarian state.

The ideals of America died on March 21, 2010. With the death of the American dream, will the death of The United States of America shortly follow? Well if the National government continue to govern in this dictatorial fashion there is no hope. A return to Federal government could save us, but it may be to late. The only other hope lays with the states, who must save themselves and reaffirm their sovereignty or commit suicide with the USA. I hope that we can reconcile with each other since it is required for our survival, but I have no faith in our current leadership to even see the need.

Stupak and How He Mislead Us

It appears to me that Stupak fooled us into believing that he was opposing the Healthcare Deformation bill as a way to make sure that it passed. This seems to be a very skillful way to allow the party to twist the arms of many of the hold outs on the Dem side. By him holding out, many of use thought that the bill would never pass. But video proves that all along he planned to vote for the bill even if the abortion language was in it.




He changed his vote at the last minute which pushed the total well over the amount needed. He planned to use the Executive Order to cover his tracks. But as I've said before, all of the American people are not as stupid at they thought.

But as this video proves, Executive Orders can not change the law. So this was all a lie to push the bill over the line at the last minute. They must of thought that no one would be watching on Palm Sunday. But it does not matter. He did not care. He got what he wanted.

The Knock in the Dark of the Night II

I awoke to a brave new world this morning. I now live in a different country. Liberty died last night. With the passage of this so called Healthcare Reform bill we find that an entire industry has been ceased by the Federal government. Through constant attacks an American President and his party has ignored the US Constitution and grabbed power over life and death of every citizen. The knock in the dark of the night came while many of us slept. Now we find that there was not a change of party rule in 2009 but a coup d'état.

Once again near midnight Congress voted in the middle of the night to rob us of our freedoms.  On March 21, 2010 American liberty died while the Democrat Party celebrated. Now with the passage of this bill American's are responsible to pay just to live. The old rule was that no one could avoid death or taxes. Now it is death, taxes, and insurance. What will be next? When the next power-mad Party ceases control. "No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session." - Mark Twain

So I awoke to a country that now finds that it must now fear the knock in the dark. The IRS's powers have expanded and are an Extra-Constitutional organization that works beyond the limitation of the law. Our lives are now under the total control of a power hungry Federal government. If not this administration then the next or the next will again expand these powers. Putting this much power into the hands of politicians means that none of us are safe to sleep at night. None of us can depend on any of the liberties that we have allowed to be stolen by one party in the middle of the night. What else have they and will they steal?

Healthcare Promises, Promises

I keep hearing Democrats saying that once the bill is passed the American people will love it. Former President Clinton is promising the members of Congress that they will be trouble if they don't pass Healthcare Deformation. We have been promised that this intrusion into every American's lives is somehow a gift.

There is a bank commercial that shows two little girls and one is asked if she would like a pony. She is handed a toy. Then the other girl is asked the same question and is given a real pony. To a child it would seem that the second girl was the lucky one. But as an adult I realize that the cost of taking care of a pony is more than a lot of people can afford. For a child this is not important, since they don't understand the value of money.

It seems that our elected officials also don't know the value of money. Unlike the children in the ad in the real world the Democrats are promising us a pony. As adults we realize that we can not afford it. In fact the cost of their pony will be paid by our children and grandchildren. This gift is no gift at all. It is a nightmare. We can not afford to pay the cost of the current entitlements. We can not afford another huge government bureaucracy who knows how many divisions and expansion of the current system.

So all of these promise from our current leaders are not something I can trust. Our leaders are out of control and are only concerned about passing a 100 year old agenda item. If they have been waiting 100 years to create universal healthcare, then I can only assume that they are responsible for the current problem. Considering that the President's Chief of Staff has said: "That you can not let a crisis go to waste," I have to assume that the government created this crisis so that they could take advantage of the American people. So do you trust their promises?

True Evil

One of the most enduring arguments in the history of our existence is the question of true evil. In the Judeo-Christian tradition the devil plays the role of ultimate evil and the keeper of eternal torment. But not everyone believes that evil, true evil that is, really exist. There are those that believe that all evil resides within the acts of people. Some believe that certain groups are evil. One of the most enduring figures used as a reference of evil is Adolf Hitler. His acts are seen as the foundation of what makes a man evil. He united a people and led them into a war of conquest. He was responsible for the death of millions of innocent humans through barbaric means. His ideas of racial purity ended with one of the greatest crimes of the 20th century, known as The Holocaust in which people were killed for no other reason than being members of a demonized ethical group. His evil was great but he is not the only person in history to use division to unite a people. Hitler united his people first around the idea that all of their troubles were caused by the Jews. He later extended that to "International Judaism" that he claimed was responsible for the troubles of the German nation. He was able to focus the German people's fear and distrust toward one easy to blame group. This created a nation that allowed itself to be totally dominated.

Throughout history leaders have used fear to unite. Some used external threats, sometimes real other time created to convince people to pull together. Some leaders, like Herr Hitler, use internal divisions to unite the people, by providing a convenient group to attack and demonize. It seems to be easy to convince people that certain groups are evil. But in most large groups there are only a few people who form the core and the rest are just followers. Not all German people who were members of the Nazi were evil or even knew what was occurring at the higher levels. Many joined because they were compelled to do so just to avoid condemnation or so they could keep their jobs and earn a living in a dangerous environment. That did not make them totally responsible for the actions of the ones who did wrong, only in part.

With the current trends in the finances of the United States we are heading for a major crisis. The current members of the government don't seem to have any long term answers. For years there has been a lot of temporary patches, but no matter what, patches don't last forever. Eventually you are going to have to fix the problem or replace whatever is broken. We are at a point with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid that the patches are falling off. All of these government programs are out of money. They are paying out or close to exceeding the money that they are collecting.

It has been obvious to many of us for years that the government (meaning us) will one day be unable to pay for the promises of our parents and grandparents. We are responsible for a debt that has grown far beyond what the original government officials ever thought. But here we are with a large segment of society becoming more and more dependent on checks from Uncle Sam. But Uncle Sam has maxed out the credit card and the pay checks are getting smaller, not larger. With the economy in a downturn it would seem foolhardy to think that raising tax rates would do nothing more then push the economy lower. It would also seem to me that borrowing more money to be dangerous for the long term health of the nation. The addition of more entitlement programs would be suicidal. But it seems that the current administration is determined to do. They are doing all of the above.

With the nation staring down so many critical issues we must eventually face up to the facts that these problems will not just go away on their own. There comes a time when we must face some facts and ask some even tougher questions.

There are times in your life when you must ask yourself some tough questions. You must face some facts that will not go away. It may be about yourself, your spouse, child or other family member. These are times when you need to get advice and then you and hopefully with the help of others you make a decision. When it comes to matters of health it is not easy to make some choices. When it comes to the ones that you love cost are the last thing that most consider.

The debate about Healthcare Reform has been mostly centered around costs. That is the only thing that the government can really talk about. The Congress can not create doctors or nurses. They can do things to encourage or discourage people to/from choose the profession. They are selling that having healthcare insurance is some sort of magic pill. That somehow forcing everyone to purchase4 healthcare insurance all of our health problems will be solved. As I've said before, there is a lot of talk about cost but very little about quality. Quantity over quality is a very old argument. Do you think that by increasing quantity we can increase quality. There is not a good track record for this scheme. But the national government is determined to force this corrupted system on the American people.

We as Americans must ask ourselves some tough questions:

I've struggled with a name for the so called "Presidential Bipartisan Healthcare Summit."  I've considered "The Snooze Summit," "The Purely Partisan Presidential Pontification," or "The Blair House Hysteria." But after much thought I settled on my favorite: "The Bloviation at Blair House." There seemed to be a lot of talking but little listening. A lot of sad stories but no answers. The one question that I keep asking myself is: Do they really think that the answers to all problems can  be provided by government? As I was listening to Ms. Pelosi's reply I thought I was hearing a Prego Spaghetti Sauce commercial.  She was saying in essences: "It's in there." Well I don't care what she says, I don't want the government running the healthcare system. They are too involved now for my liking.

The thing that the Administration and the Leaders in Congress seem to not understand is the lack of faith in their leadership by the average citizen in this country. We don't trust them. They have an agenda and will say or do anything to pass it, without considering the good of the country as a whole. The Federal government does not have the Constitutional powers needed to nationalize the healthcare system. And don't tell me again about everyone else in the world having government provided healthcare. Every time I hear that I think I'm listening to a spoiled 9 year old kid saying: "But everyone's parents but mine will let them............." Our differences from the rest of the world is what made us a beacon to the world. Some of the Progressives need to grow up and take responsibility for their lives. Don't expect the government to make it perfect.

The President has said that he will sit down with the Republicans to talk about healthcare on Thursday of this week. But before that meeting the leaders of the House and Senate are preparing to pass the "Healthcare Deformation" bill to send to the President by using legislative tricks. The Speaker of the House has said that she is doing this for the American people.  I have to ask: Exactly what American people is she referring to?  Is it the minority of people who don't have insurance? Is it for those who are happy with their healthcare coverage? Is it for those who consider this a disaster in the making? Is it for the healthcare insurance companies who stand to gain from the mandates? Is it for the states that will be handed a pile of unfunded mandates when they are so far underwater already?

I can only assume that if the bill is passed, that the President will sign it.  Even though he has made promises that he will listen to alternatives, I've noticed that he does little of it. What I keep hearing him say is that he has done a poor job of explaining the plan and that he just needs to talk to the American people.  Well Mr. President, we are not all children.  You need to stop talking at us and start talking to us.  Listen to what we is being said. American leaders listen; they don't want to be talk down to the people. Just because you won an election does not make you all knowing and seeing. The system was built from the ground up; we do not want to be ruled.  We want to be lead by a leader who is concerned about the whole, not just a single special interest group or a personal agenda.

Mr. President, I ask you to stop all of your divisive talk and demonizing of whole industries and segments of the American population. This is not the way to gain favor or trust. If you are going to demonize the doctors or the health insurance companies today: Then who will be the next target? I can only assume that it will be anyone who doesn't agree with you.  That is not the way I want to be governed.  I don't want to live in fear.  I don't want to have to worry that your next agenda item will need to make my job a fall guy so that you can sell another expansion of government power.  Living in fear of the government is not part of the American dream.  The concept of divide and conquer is well understood and you should not be using it. Don't demonize the people that you expect to help oppose you. Turning us against one another is not a system that I want to see. After all we are all Americans and to the largest extent many of our values are not that different.

In the healthcare debate the supporters have utilized the English language in a way that few people have realized.  I hear almost everyday someone who supports the current effort to remake the American health care system say that they support “heath care.”  In reply the opposition will say that they oppose it.  I can’t say for sure, but I feel confident that what the person meant was; that they opposed the current legislation.  The fact that it is even said conveys a hidden meaning.  I propose that the opposition to the government takeover of the American Healthcare system be referred to at “The Healthcare Deformation,” or just simply “The Deformation” pronounced Daf-or-máysh’n.

The saving grace for the American people is that you are not as ignorant as thought.  When I heard the opposition to the plan, I understood it.  But there are many out there who don’t pay attention and think that those opposed to this plan, in the words of a partisan member of Congress: want you to die and die quickly.  That type of outrageous language may fool some, but it seems that you are not as stupid as they had hoped.  The sad part of this type of ridicules partisan nonsense only convinces more Americans that those in power are not willing to work to solve problems.  It is arrogant and stupid to attack others in such a manner.  Just because I disagree with a plan does not mean that it is OK to demonize me.  I know that I heard alternatives being discussed in public, but the party in power was unwilling to listen.  They preferred to ignore anything but their own voice in an echo chamber.

The Knock in the Dark of the Night

A wise person told me something many years ago; he said that nothing good occurs after midnight. I know that there are parts of town that I would not want to walk through at 1 am. That includes most of Washington DC. But there is a part of the capital that should not be occupied at such a late hour, the hallowed halls of Congress. But now we find that our freedoms are under attack by those who have sworn to defend the Constitution. If this is such a good and important thing; shouldn’t the American people be included in the decision? Why does the Congress keep passing bills in the dark of the night?

For years people around the world have feared the knock that came in the middle of the night. The American people as a whole have not known this fear since the creation of the republic. But this week there will be a knock in the dark of the night for the American people. With a bill that has been hidden away from the light of day, the leader of the Senate is unveiling it in the dark of the night and forcing a vote. He followed through and the bill is another step closer to becoming the law of the land. He is preparing to make major changes to the American health care system without most of the American people even aware of what is occurring. His reasoning seems to be the promise of "giving the President a present." That is no reason to pass a bill without proper airing.

Do you really trust politicians and government bureaucrats to make the right decisions on your health care? The problem is that since the details are hidden, we don’t know the truth. Where is the President's promise of openness? Will follow through on his other promises? Well so far he is zero for zero on the transparency promises. I don't think I believe his promises on the health care bill.

Many believe that there are illegal/unconstitutional provisions in this bill. One thing for sure is that we will all lose freedoms when the Federal government takes control of every ones medical care. But as we can see with the illegal alien issue, right and wrong, the law, and the Constitution does not matter to our “leaders.” They prefer to work in darkness and away from the public view. Like thieves in the night they are stilling our liberties. With the so called “Health Care Reform Bill” they are now putting themselves in the position of affecting all of our lives.

So now the American people must constantly fear the new knock in the dark of the night. With the backroom dealing, political pay offs, and late night votes that has occurred; how can we trust that the final law? Too many lies have been told. Too much money has been wasted. Is it not time to reconsider the direction of our nation?

The Cap and Trade bill passed the House in same manner. Now we know with the truth that has been revealed with the “Climategate” emails that show that the whole thing is passed upon LIES. Are we governed by fools or are we fools for trusting them? Can we trust that they are really looking out for our best interest? Or could it be that they are only interested in power?

Now that they are spending TRILLIONS of dollars what comes next? The politicians must be honest to the American people. Tell us what they are really doing. Stop the stealing in the middle of the night. Not only are they stealing our money, but they are stealing our freedoms. Once they take the right of choice away from us, what else will they take? Could they next be requiring us to buy cars from Obama Motors? Will they next be ordering us to buy government newspapers? Will they then require us to purchase only government approved products?

With these new mandates the government will now be able to pick the winners and the losers. The only way you can be a winner is to make sure you support the people in power. So we now must fear that knock at the door. We must now fear that we can go to jail for not buying the correct heath care insurance. The politician and the insurance company win. We the American people lose.

The mind is a funny thing. With all the talk of insurance reform an old memory worked its way up to the surface. I remember when I was a young child, setting at the doorway as my Mother and Father listened to an insurance salesman. You must understand that for years the common sales technique to sell insurance has been fear. They always paint the grimmest and most frightening scenarios. That is their jobs. Things like: What if your husband dies? Who will take care of you and your 3 young children? But that was his job. He never talked about the odds. Of course like many Americans, my parents would more than likely never understood or just been confused by the numbers. Anyway numbers can be twisted. Remember what Mark Twain said: “There are three types of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics.

I’m not going to say that that insurance man was a villain. After all what he was saying was the truth. In the early 60s my mother and my siblings would have been in a desperate position if my father had met with an accident. He stayed on message and convinced my parents that life insurance was a good bargain. He didn’t lie or even stretch the truth. He simple painted the picture of “what if.” Unlike the current debate there was a consistent message.

Trust?

In the current debate over the health care bill we can see a continued shift in the American public. For years the members of the middle class have been so busy that many have ignored politics. We’ve been busy raising our children, feeding the cat, paying our mortgages, worried about saving money to send our kids to college, and hoping that those who we elected every couple of years were doing the right things.

But suddenly we find ourselves in some very uncomfortable situations. We find that many of the promises we have been made were totally ignored. We find that the only ones who have any real input into Washington are buying access. We hear a bureaucrat say: “You can not let a crisis go to waste.” We find that our leaders call those who that agree with them, good American and anyone who disagrees, un-American. We see our “leaders” not only vote on bills but pass them without bothering to read the contents. Then a leader says it doesn’t matter, since he would not understand what he was reading.

Next year many of these “leaders” will be asking for our votes. We must remember what they think of us. It does not matter if you agree or disagree with the current debate; you must remember that if our leaders are this arrogant, then they have no desire to serve. They may be doing what you think you want now, but can we trust them. We are stronger because of our differences. No one group is totally right or wrong. If we are not willing to listen to those who disagree then our ignorance will be used against us.

When our leaders will not listen and call us a mob, un-American, and say we are lying when they don’t know if it is true or not, it is time to throw the bums out. How can we trust them? I can see no reason to trust these career politicians who are so isolated from us that they seem to have forgotten what it means to be an American. As they make these huge power grabs we find our freedoms slipping away.

Something has been bothering me for a while now

Something has been bothering me for a while now. I’ve had the same doctor for years. In fact we went to high school together. His kids and mine are friends. Hell he saved my life about ten years ago. I thought I knew and could trust him. But as I listen to the leader of our country, I find out some troubling things. To think that he removed my son’s tonsils not because they were inflamed and he was constantly sick, but because he some how got paid extra for doing it. I really don’t know who paid him extra, since I paid him for the operation. Then I hear that he is contemplating cutting off my leg to collect $30,000 from my insurance. So I guess he’s using reverse psychology on me every time he tells me that I need to watch my weight and cut down on the salt and fat. Who would have thought that my friend and doctor is so evil.

Well I’m sorry Mr. Obama, I’m not buying it. My friend and doctor is a caring person who went into the medical profession for the right reasons. He really cares about his patients and takes his Hippocratic Oath to heart. For anyone to paint all doctors as uncaring and evil only shows how twisted our President thinks. Why would anyone trust a word that he says? He will say anything to get his way. He seems to be saying; to Hell with the country, he has his legacy to care about.
